From my home on Schützengasse 2 to the banks of the river Ilm, I carried out a path I had seen in a spiritual vision, gifted to me by Osun during a ritual. The journey began with a greeting and offering to Esu, lord of the crossroads, to ask for permission and guidance. I committed then to not let my feet touch the ground until I got to the water. I painted them with Osun powder, placed them in red shoes, and began my walk stepping only on three wooden pallets, painted yellow. Three for the Odu Etaogundá in the Erindilogun, for the work ahead, and yellow for the one who crowned me. I moved the pallets forward as I advanced, taking each step with care, intention, and rhythm. Ogun lent me strength to endure the physical demands of the task without pause. Oyá marked the way with fierce gusts, sudden rain, cold, sun, and silence. Each step carried the weight of ancestral presence, and each obstacle became part of the blessing. At the river, I washed my feet in its icy water and offered my gratitude to Osun. The ritual was complete.

This performance is a ritual walk of trust and devotion. One of many ways I attempt not to lose myself from my own sight. I don’t always know the way. At times, I look back and find no trace of the path I’ve walked. At others, I look forward and see no road ahead. But when I move with trust in my step and persistence in action, the path reveals itself beneath me.
